Approaching a friend with social media depression
In our Facebook story of the day, you wanted to know what to do if you notice a friend's depression on social media.
If you notice that a friend is posting negative messages about their outlook and sense of hopelessness, those posts can be considered a red flags.
Mental health officials say it's a good idea to respond to the messages personally by using the social media site's direct mail system.
Dr.Cheryl Kaiser says "I strongly recommend that they contact that friend, and assist getting that friend hooked up with some sort of a therapist or some sort of mental health practitioner in the community because there is nobody that needs that should be able to handle that by their selves. You really want to get a professional involved."
But doctors say if the person has directly threatened suicide, call 9-1-1 immediately to get that person emergency assistance.
