The Albany Police Department Family Protection Unit is inviting the community out to dinner.

Wednesday afternoon a meal will be served at the Bill Miller Community Center located at 312 Vick Street.

The event is free and open to anyone who wants to participate.

Officials say the economy has had an effect on a lot of people in the area and this is an opportunity for them to reach out to those who are less fortunate.

"It's just going to be fellowshipping. The police department will be out mingling with people in the public," said Albany Police Department Family Protection Unit Investigator Bryant Leverett, "This will be a chance for them to see us one on one rather than just out performing the duties of police officers"

The dinner is set to be served at 4:30 p.m. and last until 7:30 p.m.
