APD prepares for second annual Gospel Explosion

The Albany Police Department's Family Protection Unit is busy getting ready for their second annual Gospel Explosion event on Saturday.

The free event is held at the Albany Municipal Auditorium and features live music, different performances and motivational speakers as a way to build a better foundation between citizens and their law enforcement agencies.

"A lot of times people don't come into contact with police officers until there's something major that occurs so this gives the officers as well as citizens to meet face to face in a friendly atmosphere so they can build those relationships," said APD Public Information Officer Phyllis Banks.

Officials say although the bike race will be going on at the same time, officers will be on scene to help direct people where to park when the doors open at 4:30 p.m.
