Albany police have arrested 19-year-old Sherrie McClendon for multiple counts of forgery after a burglary at Guang Zhou Chinese restaurant.
Police say that McClendon stole several checks from the restaurant while employed there. The checks were reported stolen after a burglary on April 16.
Since that time, 14 business checks totaling over $9,000 and a personal check for $4,000 were cashed according to police.
Detectives say that the money was used to purchase items including clothing, purses, shoes and paying off the balance of her car loan.
All of those items, including a 2008 Ford Focus, were seized during the execution of a search warrant in the 900 block of 8th Avenue on July 30.
Police add that McClendon also gave some of the checks she stole to at least three other people including two of her co-workers and a third that was not a restaurant employee.
McClendon faces 15 counts of forgery in the 3rd and 4th degree and theft by taking.
