The Albany Police Department Gang Unit assisted in the arrest of a 27-year-old James Russell who is wanted in a November 2012 murder in Florida.
Officials say they received information from U.S. Marshals saying Russell was staying in a Motel 6 in East Albany. After following the lead, officials say they found Russell in one of the rooms and arrested him around 9:40 p.m.
Russell was held in the Dougherty County Jail overnight before being transported to the LEC for questioning by the Jacksonville Police Department.
According to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office official website, Russell is wanted for the November 4th murder of Philippe Foster.
Gang Unit officials charged Russell with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of cocaine, possession of marijuana, and identity theft. Police say all of those charges stem from the Motel 6 arrest, however he does face more charges in Florida.
Officials say Russell will remain in custody in the county until a hearing is held on his murder charge.
