Adults students competed for honors at Albany Technical College during their Exceptional Adult Georgians in Literacy Education event on Monday.
Adult students who are registered in Georgia's literacy programs and were nominated by their instructors competed in various tests to be named the winner.
Matthew Newsome came out on top during Albany Tech's competition and now has the chance to compete at the state level in Atlanta in February to be named the Literacy Ambassador for Georgia.
Newsome says only one month ago he decided to go back and get his GED and now he's being honored for a top award. Newsome says the experience has made him realize his true potential and he wants to push himself as far as he can go.
