Albany State University held their Founder's Day celebration Friday to honor their founder, Dr. Joseph Winthrop Holley.

Holley founded the University in 1903, allowing students to receive an education at the college for 110 years now.

Dr. Sonya Acree was the keynote speaker at Friday morning's convocation. Acree graduated from ASU in 1990 and went on to have a successful career. But she faced quite a few challenges during her journey and because of that she was the perfect fit for this year's theme, "Embracing Change: Investing in Our Future."

Acree says she says it's important for students to continuously hear about Dr. Holley's story to inspire them to keep going even when they face challenges and adversity.
