Albany preps for New Year's Eve fireworks show
ALBANY, Ga. —
The Good Life City is preparing to host its first New Year's Eve Firework Show Sunday night, but Albany police are gearing up for the event too.
The fun starts with a countdown and 11 p.m. at Riverfront Park, and the fireworks will start lighting up the sky at midnight.
The Albany police will be stepping up patrol all weekend, but will have a significant presence at the fireworks show.
Sergeant Richard Norman says the goal is for everyone to have a happy and enjoyable experience.
"We want the kids and everybody to be safe,” Norman said. “This is a family orientated event. We want you to be safe. We don't want you to be in fear of becoming a victim. We want everyone to come to The Good Life City and have a good time."
If you plan on doing your own fireworks at home, you can use them until 1 a.m.
The 11 p.m. curfew for kids under 18 still applies that night.
