Albany Police train citizens how to use their gun

On Saturday the Albany Police Department held their annual Safety Firearms course.

The eight hour class, was open to citizens 21 years of age and older, and covered basic handgun safety, legal issues, and handling skills needed to deploy a handgun for self-defense.

Officials with APD say participants also learned how to respect the gun which is very important.

Corporal Jean Casseus with the Albany Police Department says, "you don't want to be defendant in your own case. Just because you own a gun doesn't mean you know how to use a gun."

The program was free. If you would like to find out more information about when the next class is offered, contact the Albany Police Department.

This is the third year the class has been offered through APD.
