Albany Police targeted by bomb threat
Investigators say the Albany police Law Enforcement Center became the target of a bomb threat on Tuesday afternoon.
Police say around 2 p.m. a man called dispatch saying he was in route to the LEC on Oglethorpe Boulevard as well as APD's West Broad Avenue location with a bomb and AK-47. Officers immediately evacuated employees and visitors while their bomb sniffing dog did a sweep of the building.
"It was very surprising to have something like this happen. I've been here four years and I've never experienced anything like this so it was surprising. But it makes you become aware that situations can occur anywhere," says APD Media Manager Phyllis Banks.
Employees were put on high alert when they returned to the building.
APD says investigators are working with dispatch to get more information about the caller.
