      Albany police make record weapons bust

      Albany police have arrested eight suspected gang members and their associates for a variety of charges after recovering 24 guns, electronics, and jewelry after a kidnapping case led to a burglary investigation.A Chevrolet Impala that was associated with a kidnapping earlier in the month, was later identified by officers, and searched, where officers initially found 10 weapons.A search of the Impala led to a cache of weapons including three shotguns, one revolver, six handguns, ammunition, a safe, holsters, bandanas and gloves.Police say that 24-year-old Damontra Gresham, 20-year-old Dontavious Scott, 24-year-old Dominik Scott, and 21-year-old Aaron Barnes are all part of the Brim Bloods on the west side of Albany and have been arrested. They all face one charge of aggravated assault, kidnapping, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, burglary, and violation of the Georgia Street Gang Terrorism act (pending further investigation.) They also face multiple counts of theft by receiving stolen property.Police then executed search warrants on residences in the 1400 block of Avalon Avenue, 1100 block of Auburn Street, 400 block of South Westover Road after new evidence came to light.While serving the warrants, 23-year-old Antonio Daniels, 18-year-old Melodi Carter, 19-year-old Chelita Anderson, and 23-year-old Letia Baisden were in the process of removing stolen items from Demontra's residence. They found six shotguns, ammunition, eight televisions, and a large amount of jewelry. All four have been charged with tampering with evidence and theft by receiving stolen property with theft by receiving stolen property, burglary, and conspiracy charges pending.Investigators later learned about a second additional handgun inside of a different Impala and issued a search warrant on that vehicle to recover the gun.
