Albany police investigating armed robbery call near Woodall's on N. Slappey

Police arrested Wesley Williams after questioning him. Williams was charged with "false report of a crime".

Initial Story
An assault victim is recovering after being shot during an attempted robbery.

Wesley Williams, 34, told Albany police detectives that he was at the Woodall's gas station located at the corner of 8th Ave. and north Slappey Blvd. when an unknown black male approached him with a small handgun.

This happened around 1:15 Monday afternoon.

The suspect pointed his gun at the victim and demanded money.

Williams and the man then began to struggle.

During the tussle the victim grabbed the barrel of the handgun as the suspect fired a round into his hand.

When this happened, the unknown male fled the scene.

Williams drove himself to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital, where he was later questioned by detectives from the Albany Police Department.

Police investigators are still looking into this case.
