The Albany Police Department is launching Spanish speaking telephone line to better assist southwest Georgia's Hispanic population.
Starting Thursday July 15, 2010 the line will be available 24-hours a day for Spanish speaking residents to call and report information anonymously regarding criminal activity.
Police think the new phone line will assist in solving more cases if they do their part to bridge the language barrier.
APD Public Information Officer Phyllis Banks-Whitley says the department hopes people will use the Spanish information line. "We're hoping people will give us information that will lead to some suspects and cut down on some of the crime in the Hispanic community" says Whitley.
The Spanish speaking police number is 229-434-2677
