Families said goodbye to a group of civilian marines leaving from Albany's Maintenance Center to head overseas.

15 men boarded a bus to Atlanta where they will depart to either Afghanistan or Kuwait.

Officials with the Marine Corps Logistics Base say the men volunteered for the task.

A couple of them spoke with FOX 31 news about how their family is handling their departure.

"It'll be rough at first but I think it's the best thing for me to do right now. Come back and buy me a house," said civilian marine Justin Hamilton.

Another person will join the group of civilian marines when they depart from Atlanta to fly overseas. The deployments range in time from six months to one full year.
