Albany man accused of tying up roommate, trying to rape her

Dougherty County police officers arrest an Albany man who reportedly held his roommate captive and tried to rape her.

Police say 35-year-old Vashon Olds tied the hands and feet of his 27-year-old roommate and then taped her mouth shut. They say Olds forced the woman into the bedroom of a house they share and tried to remove her pants. Authorities say Olds and the woman had been family friends for a long time.

"He actually took the ties off of her at one point and she was able to get the duct tape off, and she began talking to him, trying to calm him down and try to ease the situation. That way she could get out of the house," said Detective Calvin Cleveland.

Olds is charged with aggravated assault and attempted rape. He was released from jail earlier this week for a separate domestic violence charge.
