Albany gets a splash of color Saturday
Paint Georgia Pink has been fundraising for breast cancer through walks and other events in Atlanta for years now. Recently, officials from the group realized they needed to spread out to more areas of the state.
That's when they decided to create 'Paint Albany Pink' which was held for the first time Saturday morning.
Nearly 200 breast cancer patients, survivors, and supports came out to paint the town pink. They walked a total of 7 miles around downtown Albany and hoped to raise about $10,000.
While they are raising awareness, they are also raising money for more than just the cure. The proceeds of this event benefit the Carlton Breast Center Fund at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital and they go towards helping women with breast cancer with their day to day bills.
Organizers say they had participants come from 7 different states to attend Saturday's walk.
