Albany elementary students raise money for Haiti refugees
Although the earthquake in Haiti occurred two weeks ago, Southwest Georgians are still helping with the relief efforts, including Jackson Heights Elementary School.
Students collected canned goods, beans, rice, bottled water, and much more and donated it to Mission Change Albany to distribute to Haiti refugees. They also raised over $1,100 which they gave to the Southwest Georgia American Red Cross.
Gerald Williams of the Red Cross says he wasn't surprised by the children's generosity.
"It's amazing what children can do when they recognize the need and their given an opportunity to do something," said Williams.
