Albany asks for residents help to clear debris

If you have debris from Monday’s storm, the City of Albany is encouraging you to take care of it.

You can put it in the normal collection where you would normally put yard trimmings for the twice-a-month pickup.

If it’s large debris that isn’t easily moved, like a tree, then call Public Works at 311 or 229-883-6950, and they’ll try to work with you to remove it. However, public works crews cannot move debris off private property, so it must be in the right-of-way.

Assistant City Manager Phil Roberson said overall, Albany won’t need outside help for debris removal like it did after the January storms.

“As a matter of fact, we’ve reached out to some of our counties around us and asked them if we can reciprocate for the help they gave us in January,” he said. “So we were fortunate. I mean, it could’ve been a lot worse.”

Roberson said much of that has to do with how much preparation Albany had.

He said they were able to do more before this storm as opposed to in January, when the storms quickly hit.
