Airborne semi-truck accident closes Slappey Blvd.
The Albany Police Department and EMS responded to an accident just before six Friday morning at Slappey Boulevard and the Liberty Expressway.
According to officials, the tractor trailer was traveling north on the Liberty Expressway when, unknown at this time, went into the median.
While in the median, the truck went inbetween the overpass bridges, down an embankment, became airborne over one guardrail and crashed into a second guardrail which brought the truck to a stop.
While airborne, and a tire blew off and hit another vehicle. A second vehicle traveling on Slappey Boulevard, collided with the perpendicular semi-truck while attempting to stop.
The drivers of the two vehicles, hit by the tire and truck, were not injured.
The semi-truck driver is injured and breathing but there is no word on the extent of the injuries.
The Albany Police Department wants the public to know that Slappey Boulevard is closed in both directions between the All-American Fun Park and Burger King as they continue to investigate and clean up debris.
