The Worth County Fire Department will be seeing quite a few new faces in the upcoming months.

On Thursday night, the Worth County Board of Commissioners approved the department's request to advertise for two full-time and ten part-time employees.

Officials say they have to hire more part-timers to work less hours each because of the Affordable Care Act.

"They can pull your files back to six months and anybody that works these continuous hours overtime every pay period, then us as employers have to go in and offer them full-time benefits," said Worth County Fire Captain John Graddy.

Fire officials say they have eight employees who they would have to pay benefits for, which would cost around $10,000 per employee.
