Many got a glimpse of engineering technology at Albany Technical College during an event celebrating engineering technology week Thursday.

Visitors met with faculty, students and engineers from the community to participate in activities and learn about engineering technology programs at the college.

"It's a hands on profession. You've got to be able to be creative, you've got to do problem solving and think outside the box. So all of the activities today are to push everybody just a little bit and then to have some fun," said Prior learning assessment coordinator Elizabeth Brown.

The event was another initiative the college offered since it received a share of a $13.6 million consortium grant awarded by the U.S. Department of Labor in 2012. The grant was part of the Trade Adjustment Assistance Community College and Training (TAACCCT). Albany Tech shared the grant with Atlanta Tech and Athens Tech.

Albany Tech wants to increase the number of graduates in the engineering technology program by meeting current and future workplace demands.
