      9-year-old dies in Thomas County house fire

      Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner Ralph Hudgens' office is investigating an overnight house fire in Thomas County that claimed the life of a child and injured another.

      A 9-year-old boy was killed in the fire. His grandmother, Queen Copeland, 56, was transported to a local hospital with burns and smoke inhalation. Four others escaped the blaze unharmed.

      The single-story brick home located off Palmer Road in Meigs was destroyed. The fire call came in around 12:23 a.m.

      The exact cause of the fire is unknown and still under investigation Hudgens said.
