9-year-old boy drowns

The Terrell County Coroner James C. "Bo" Hamby told FOX 31 News that 9-year-old Jakob Peters was swimming with friends in a private pond when he drowned Thursday night.

Emergency officials utilized the Lee County Dive Team to assist in the search for Peters. He was pronounced dead on the scene where they recovered his body.

Friends and family gathered at a house on Old Mill Road near the pond to grieve.

Angela Jackson, the aunt of Jakob Peters says she'll miss his smile the most. "He was a very sweet young boy, outgoing, he wanted to be a singer when he grew up. He was just so sweet, very smart, loved to joke, loved to play around, and always give you big hugs. Every time he'd see you he'd give you a big hug. I'm going to miss his hugs you know that's my nephew. I'm going to miss his smile and his jokes and were going to miss him" says Jackson.

Mary Peters sent us the picture of Jakob and says all of his friends called him "JJ".
