81 dogs seized in Sumter Co., living in deplorable conditions
Law enforcement officials in Sumter County have seized 81 dogs.
The dogs were found on property belonging to Margie Davis, who also owns the Jungle Pet Store in Americus.
Sumter County Sheriff Pete Smith says the dogs were found in deplorable conditions, with feces tangled in their fur. Smith says many of the dogs are sick and some of them had no food and water.
Davis is a former Americus police officer who now faces charges of animal cruelty.
The dogs are being taken to nearby animal shelters.
