Thanks to the help of social media, current students and former alumni came together to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Dougherty Comprehensive High School.

But it wasn't just about a reunion, organizer Corey Joyner says he wanted to use this opportunity as a learning tool for current students.

Joyner says, "so one thing we want these kids to know is there are some people who made through the same neighborhoods that they made it through. Same struggles, and same conditions and they're successful in their life and so these kids can see that, then they'll take on some of the traits that these older people have done."

The school has been open since 1963.
