Albany Police Deparment say they have now arrested three people in the shooting accident of Quantisha Mallory.
According to police, the mother of the child, 21-year-old Shondrique Mallory, was charged with reckless conduct. Her boyfriend, 25-year-old Kelvin Jones, was charged with tampering with evidence. Jones's sister, Dinah Hosley was also charged with tampering with evidence.
After further investigation by the Family Protection unit, investigators said that the weapon was underneath a couch and the child obtained access to it. At some point, one shot was fired and the child was struck in the right foot. Family members transported the child to the hospital for treatment where she was treated and released. Officials say the weapon was not recovered.
The Albany Police Department is investigating a shooting at 1505-B Avalon Avenue in Albany.
Police say 5-year-old Quantisha Mallory picked up a book bag and when she later dropped it on the floor s gun went off striking her in the foot.
Mallory was taken to the hospital by a family member where she remains with her mother and father.
At this time police are trying to determine why a gun was in a book bag, who owns the gun, and where the gun is at this time.
