3-0 vote approves Lee County's 2018 budget
The Lee County Board of Commissioners approved its new budget on Thursday night but without a few leaders present.
The very brief special called meeting was held specifically to approve its 2018 budget set at $23.9 million.
However, it was a three-to-nothing that finally passed it as some commissioners weren’t there.
Commissioners Luke Singletary and Rick Muggridge, who had both been vocal about not supporting the budget as is, were both absent.
In fact, they both voted against it in last month’s meeting.
Board chairman Dennis Roland said Singletary was out of town on business and Muggridge called to say that he would be late.
The approved budget means the plan for the new fire station in the county will move forward.
Roland says they'll start getting that building fixed up and doing some hiring but people won't see it functioning until at least the beginning of next year.
