Officials with the Lowndes County Sheriff's Department say that on Monday evening around 6:00 PM, fire fighters and emergency medical personnel were called to a residence in the 5000 block of Pearl Davis Road regarding a possible drowning.

They say that upon the arrival of emergency workers, a 2-year-old female found in the home's swimming pool and was rushed to South Georgia Medical Center by ambulance but was unable to be revived.

Investigators from the Sheriff's Office say they are conducting an investigation, but thus far the incident appears to be a tragic accident.

Sheriff's officials say the name of the child is being withheld at this point in order to allow the family to notify their family members who may live in other states.
