1 injured, 1 arrested in Cordele shooting
One man has been arrested for a shooting that happened Wednesday afternoon in Cordele.
Investigators say that officers arrived to shooting scene of W. 24th Avenue and Joe Wright Drive around 2 p.m.
22-year-old Dequwan Richards had a verbal altercation with another man when he began shooting according to investigators. One of those shots struck 24-year-old Dequante Jackson, who wasn't involved in the incident.
Jackson was taken to Crisp Regional for non-life threatening injuries.
Richards was arrested in Montezuma and has been charged with aggravated assault.
The case remains under investigation.
Cordele Police Chief Rob Rodriguez said, “This is a senseless act of violence, regardless of what the circumstances of the verbal confrontation were; Mr. Richards did not need to resort to shooting at anyone. This case may not have been solved as quickly as it was if not for the assistance of our citizens. Even though this incident was preventable, this is a great example of what can happen when members of our community decide to speak up. By speaking up, we were able to gather the information needed to arrested Mr. Richards and prevent another senseless act of violence from happening.”
