Voter turnout down four percent from four years ago

Voter turnout in Dougherty County is down from the primary elections four years ago.
This year, the county finished at 22 percent. In 2010, it was at 26 percent, a four percent drop.
This was all announced today at the Dougherty County Board of Elections meeting.
The board hoped for higher numbers but the county still finished higher than the state average of 20 percent.
"I'm kind of disappointed but I am encouraged by the fact that I feel like those that were running for office did get out and do their due diligence to make sure that individuals knew that they were seeking this office and they wanted to be elected and made sure they knew about the May 20th primary election date," Elections Supervisor Ginger Nickerson said.
The run-off election is July 22. It will be for the District 6 School Board seat.
