The mayor of Dawson stopped by the Dougherty County Family Literacy Council Tuesday afternoon to learn more about how the program is benefiting the citizens of Terrell County.

The Family Literacy Program just recently started serving Terrell and Worth counties

The program assists families with children from birth up to five years old in Terrell County.

"We have gotten to know the mayor of Dawson and he has been a great help to us," Executive Director Sandy Bamford said.

Mayor Christopher Wright says there has been an immediate need to supply education to residents in Dawson who cannot afford it.

He says this program stood out to him because it has a supply closet so citizens of Terrell County who have food stamps and receive funding from the state can have access to diapers or cleaning supplies, for example.
