      Darton State faculty member announces run for school board seat

      Darton State College Economics Professor Aaron Johnson announced his plan to seek the Dougherty County School Board District 4 seat in front of the Government Center Thursday afternoon.

      Johnson says students should be college ready and teachers should be motivated. Additionally, he wants to break down the cycle of poverty through education.

      Johnson said "We should be working smarter not harder; we must strive for transparency and accountability"

      Johnson has been an assistant professor of Economics and Economics spokesperson for seven years. He has served on the Albany-Dougherty Planning Commission, Albany Chamber of Commerce Small Business Resource Committee, Albany-Dougherty Economic Development Commission and Girls Inc.

      He closed his announcement conference by saying "I'm striving for excellence by breaking down barriers."
