Anthony Jones announced Friday afternoon he will run for the Dougherty County Commission District 6 seat, currently held by Jack Stone.
Jones has been a resident of the district for 25 years. He says he hopes to address the issues of public safety especially regarding capital equipment. He spoke of a time when his neighbor's house burned.
"His house burned and we needed someone from the fire department to respond," Jones said. "We had a fire truck come from Worth County and by the time they arrived, it was time to save the chimney."
He also says thefts are a problem in his area and wants police to be more visible in the communities.
Jones also says flooding in East Albany is an issue he hopes to address as a county commissioner.
