Albany officials prep for regional meeting

Dougherty County Commission Chairman Jeff Sinyard and Mayor Willie Adams will travel to Camilla Monday evening for a regional meeting on House Bill 277.
The bill created 12 regions in Georgia to potentially design a network of roads. The region Albany belongs to includes 14 other surrounding counties. All 14 mayors and 14 county commission chairmen will meet to get everyone on the same page.
If the group decides to move forward with the plan they will work with the Department of Transportation to design a comprehensive transportation plan. The plan would be funded by an additional penny sales tax.
If the roundtable moves forward with designing a comprehensive transportation system Southwest Georgians will vote to approve or deny it in July 2012.
