The compromise came as House lawmakers supporting the proposal are trying to pressure the state Senate, which has been more cautious about expanding where people can carry guns. State Rep. Alan Powell put forward a revised plan Tuesday that abandons his plan to decriminalize the carrying of guns on college campuses. Powell says college officials were too adamantly opposed to that change. Powell originally wanted to let people carry guns into local government buildings if they weren't protected by security personnel. Powell says his latest plan would give local governments more discretion. Those changes came just before Senate lawmakers started considering the legislation.
