A local Dixie Youth softball team has built its own underdog story. The Southeast Dougherty All-Stars have already accomplished the title of "best eighteen and under softball team in the state", and there's still more to accomplish.
The all-star team will represent the state of Georgia in the Dixie Youth Softball World Series in August. It's the first time the Dougherty County league has reached the top level tournament, held in Alexandria, Louisiana, in its little league history.
The 18U team will compete against 12 teams, in hopes playing a full seven days of softball. Three years of experience has gotten the team to this point, their trip being the pay-off for all of the hard work.
"It took a lot of hard work to get to this point. A lot of practicing, a lot of games and a lot of fundamentals to get where we're at now," head coach Brian Harpe said.
"We've been through a lot, through a couple of years and now since we're here...we're really doing good," shortstop Briana Harpe said.
