Phoebe Sumter Medical Center is hosting a press conference to formally announce that Friday, September 9th, 2011 begins the 100-day countdown of the opening of its facility. The anticipated opening date is Saturday,
December 17th, 2011. This new hospital will come almost five years after a F3 tornado destroyed the community hospital on March 1, 2007.
The press conference will be held at the Phoebe Sumter Wellness and Education Center Classroom 1 & 2, 132 Highway 280 West, Americus, GA 31719 on Friday, September 9th, 2011 at 11 am
This press conference will be an opportunity for hospital officials to give a construction update and to announce future activities and events centered around the opening of the new facility. Members of the press may also have
an opportunity to tour the new facility if possible on that date. The new Phoebe Sumter Medical Center will be 183,000 square feet, four stories and feature all private rooms as well as all of the latest, state-of-the-art equipment. One of its many unique qualities will include a 26,000 square foot roof garden. The green roof is the largest to be constructed for a healthcare facility in the Southeastern U.S. According to CEO Keith Petersen, it will be "the finest small hospital in America"
